Bex's Secret Diary
Happy Birthday to Bex!
Happy Birthday to me! I’m twelve today. Only one more year and I’m officially a teenager – WOW.
I woke up to my youngest brother (Romy) bouncing on my bed shouting at me to ‘Get up!’ – he couldn’t wait to help me open up my presents. My family sang happy birthday to me and we all had breakfast together. We had… pancakes! Proper American fluffy pancakes. We only get them on our birthdays as a special treat and oh boy was this special. Mum bought chocolate spread, strawberries and even whipped cream!
Angelo and Darius – my older and younger brother – got me this diary. I’m so surprised; it’s perfect! I’m going to write in it as often as I can.
Mum and Dad got me a drum set for my birthday. I’m so excited. It’s my absolute dream to become a professional musician. My friends from school and I - Maya, Nisha and Max – are starting our own band so maybe in a few years’ time you’ll see me at Glastonbury! Haha. Just joking. But it would be cool to do that…
Darius is calling me, I have to go!
Lots of love,
Bex x
National Black History Month
Bex Learns about Black History Month at School
At school, we've been asked to write a report on someone we admire to celebrate Black History Month this February. Most of the girls in my class picked Beyonce. Whilst she's great and all, I want to represent an unheard voice from the past.
Black History Month in February
Traditionally, the idea of celebrating Black History Month was started off in Chicago in 1915. Thousands of African Americans would travel across the country and come together to share the progress and highlights since the destruction of slavery.
Maybe I'll interview granny and see who she was inspired by when she was a girl. She must remember when these celebrations happened in the USA. Whoever I pick for Black History month, they've got to be obsessed with music like me.
Coming to think of it, granny also loves music so maybe I'll pick her to do a report on!
