Integrating Diversity Through Play: Celebrating 'Dolls of Color Month' - A Girl for All Time
How to integrate diversity into your child’s play.
This September we’re celebrating Dolls of Colour month at A Girl For All Time. Through our newest range, Your Modern Girl and Boy ™, we are embracing diversity and exploring new cultures. This range celebrates the differences that make us all uniquely special, an aim that has always been an important part of A Girl For All Time. When playing with her own children, AGAT founder Frances noticed that ‘the dolls all looked the same, even though the children did not.’ The development of a more diverse contemporary range was therefore a natural step for the A Girl For All Time family.
And it is not just Frances that has noticed the benefits of toy diversity. A recent study found that diversity in educational environments can aid a child’s empathy and communication skills. It also encourages children to engage in open conversations about differences with parents, teachers and friends and can help boost the confidence.
Toy diversity is especially important for younger children, as they begin to navigate the world around them. Whilst playing with Your Modern Girl and Boy, take the opportunity to discuss these issues with your children in the relaxed environment of playtime. Use the time to learn about another culture or simply introduce conversations about difference and kindness. In this way education, conversation and play come together.
