Amelia gets invited to a party!

Dear Diary,

I've been invited to a party tomorrow!

I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. Mother tells me to relax and stop dancing around the house, but I can't help it.

The party is going to be so much fun. It's taking place in the evening and will be one of my first formal dinner parties.

There will be soup, fish and meat for dinner. I think most likely the main course will be veal which is one of my favourites! However, the real star of the show will be the plum pudding for dessert. It's a delicious dish filled with plums, raisins and spices like cinnamon. We only get to have it on special occasions.

Mother also accompanied me to get a new dress, my first proper party dress!

We travelled into town to visit the seamstress. The window was full of colourful fabrics and beautiful textures. I was entranced.

After my measurements were taken, I was allowed to choose the colour and material I wanted. I chose light pink because it's my favourite colour and the silk was so soft when I ran my hands through it. The ruffles in the skirt will look wonderful with such beautiful fabric. The seamstress seemed to approve, so I am very excited to try on the final result tomorrow.

The dress will include the latest fashion, the 'bustle', which makes your dress stick out at the back. I always think it looks a bit silly, but mother tells me it's what all ladies wear to dinner parties.

It will also have mutton sleeves, which means that it has extra fabric around the shoulder, and be finished with white lace trim. I even have a matching walking hat, made with white feathers that will sit in my hair.

I can't wait to wear my brand new dress, taste all the delicious food, and win a parlour game or two. Tomorrow can't come soon enough!
